About me
I'm a yogini and started looking for an elevated and inspired way of living from early on. Soon after I graduated from high school I traveled to India for the first time. I went to Rishikesh, a vibrant town at the Himalayan foothills and Yoga was everywhere. Instantly the atmosphere, the people and the culture captured my heart. I went around different yoga places and met different yoga teachers. It was in those early days where I understood that it's not just an exercise but an art of living. My own experience with yoga is the foundation for working with people. It is about self-awareness, self-discovery and self-mastery. I never had to get into a competitive mindset over it.
Learning yoga in India has been my greatest blessing and I have returned many times and stayed for long periods of time.
Yellow, my dog, is a yogini too. We go everywhere together. She has a big heart and joins me often to teach yoga.
My Story
I grew up in Germany, always out for adventures and exploring, running away from home, going on walks by myself, talking to strangers. Later on I traveled the world instead of going to college. I did complete an education in travel management, as a business associate. At first I set out to explore new destinations for the company, which took me to Nepal, where I trekked up to the first base camp of Mt. Everest and up there my outlook on life changed entirely. I never returned back home. I quit the travel job. I traveled for two years on a shoestring. I ran out on money in Australia. After a few months working and backpacking my way from Darwin to Sydney I met a couple of yogis in a coffee shop and soon after started at YogaMoves as the desk girl and assistant yoga teacher, learning hands on and in the deep end. It turned into a 6 year apprenticeship. In 1996 I met my guru Sri K Pattabhi Jois during a workshop in Australia and he invited me to come back to India to study with him. Since then I have been going back to study in Mysore, India as long as he lived and continued with his grandson R Sharath Jois. I met the father of my children at the lotus feet of my guru and my children were raised spending their summers in India instead of Disneyland. Love and a marriage took me to California eventually, where I still reside today and marvel at the stunning nature and wide landscapes. My adventurous heart is full. Wherever I have gone I have taught yoga. If I don't know the language I teach with smiles.
Yoga has helped me to overcome health challenges and injuries. Yoga guided me to move along the bumpy road of life. My faith is based in Bhakti Yoga, the yoga of loving service and Lord Krishna. I obtained a few different certifications to teach a number of yoga traditions (happy to share the details upon request), but most importantly Yoga is my way of life.
It is with great honor and deep reverence for my teachers that I'm here to share the teachings with you, so that you may feel peace in your heart and a life filled with light.
